Oh, NBD. Will just be here next week, with temps predicted to be in the high 80s. I got the above pics from the website of the event I’ll be attending, the Passport to Dry Creek Valley. Along with 10 friends, I’ll be wending my way through the vineyards (in a van, driven by a sober person) (speaking of which, Kaitlin, will have to hope I don’t drunkenly run into your ‘rents!) all of next weekend. I’m so excited I don’t really know what do with myself.

Last night, hours after the Supreme Court heard arguments on why people who love each other - regardless of gender - should be able to get married, GJ asked me to marry him.

I feel so privileged that I get to marry my best friend, the man I love, the person I want to grow old and grey with, and I truly hope the Court will decide that all Americans are entitled to this special right.

Wedding planning and absurdity to follow on this blog, I’m sure. Apologies in advance but !!!!

Cool, can’t figure out how to load photos on the new app, so this will be a boring word post.

Point is: I went skiing for the first time ever today. And I loved it. Truth is, I just went down some bunny runs, but I still thought it was incredibly exhilarating and exciting and great. Didn’t mind the après ski beer, either.

More adventures tomorrow! (and maybe a picture of the amazing terrain).

The death of a pet can be heartbreaking, especially when the pet really feels like a member of the family, someone who’s spoken about as if he’s really got his own thing going on.

As in, “how’s George doing?” “Oh, just hiding. And meowing. And stretching out in the sun.” Maybe not the most conventional activities for a member of the family, but still.

George was my cat - I picked him out as a tiny 10-week old when I was a senior in high school - but he lived with my mom and step-dad (except for a brief stay with me last year) so I mostly got time with him when I’d sleep over at their house and he’d come creeping in my room sometime in the night.

George’s heart failed him this past weekend. It was enlarged and not pumping blood properly, and this sweet little boy couldn’t get enough oxygen.

He was 13, which is certainly not old enough for a cat to go, and I’ll miss his loud siamese yowl and his sweet cuddles.

Rest in Peace, Georgie.
